I recently tried the Exuviance Performance Peel AP25 ($60). It contains a 25% professional level of peeling agents in a safe, easy 2-step system for home use. It exfoliates dead, dull surface layers to stimulate the process of cell renewal among all the layers. Ingredients include glycolic acid (which I love b/c it works well for me), mandelic acid and gluconolactone. The box comes with 13 peels; 12 activator & 12 neutralizer pads and an extra one to test on your skin first. This is a six week supply using it 2 times/week which is what I did.
These are the directions I followed:
- Cleanse the face with a gentle, effective cleanser.
- Apply a Step 1 Activator Pad over the entire face, avoiding eye area, lips and any area of sensitivity. Then discard pad.
- Carefully monitor the skin’s response to the Peel by observing for any redness or discomfort, including stinging, burning, itching, tightness, tingling and peeling.
- Apply a Step 2 Neutralizer Pad to the face after 10 minutes or sooner if you experience bothersome redness or discomfort. Apply over entire face (avoiding eyes and lips), and then rinse the face thoroughly with water.
- Apply a moisturizer.
- The Exuviance Performance Peel AP25 may be used up to twice weekly, as tolerated by your skin. Reduce frequency or use if skin becomes uncomfortable, irritated or if bothersome peeling occurs.
The Good News:
- The peel did not irritate or sting at all
- Extremely convenient and ease to use
The Bad News:
- No noticeable or significant difference in my skin
The Exuviance website list these benefits:
- Helps to refine enlarged pores and smooth out skin texture. Sadly I did not get these results
- Diminishes the appearance of lines and wrinkles. No noticeable difference
- Improves skin clarity and brightness. Somewhat
- Promotes a more even skin tone.  No noticeable difference
I must state a disclaimer of sorts: I have pretty good skin and I take care of it. I exfoliate twice a week, use sunscreen everyday, use a moisturizer or night cream and I use a Vitamin C & E serum every morning. I don’t have sensitive skin at all so that was not an issue for me. I did not change this routine except that I used the Exuviance Performance Peel AP25 as my twice a week exfoliator.I think a lot of women that try peels don’t have a regular skincare routine and therefore their results seem amazing. This was not the case for me; in fact at about 4 weeks I deliberately left the peel on for 20 minutes rather than 10 to see if that made any difference. It only resulted in my skin getting dry around the chin area & peeling a bit (it was not sensitive and didn’t hurt at all), but at least I knew it was working!
So there you have it, although the Performance Peel AP25 was quick and easy to use and did not irritate my skin, I didn’t get any results from it either. AT $60 I would not repurchase. Remember everyone’s skin type is different and your results may vary.
Grade C -: If you need to use a peel, it will do the basic job but you will not get dramatic results, unless of course this is the first time using a peel. There are much cheaper alternatives that produce just as good or better results.
